Niamh Byron

Junior Visual Designer

Who is Niamh?

I am a Graphic Designer from Leeds, interested in futurism and alternative aesthetics in the world of visual communication. I joined Fishtank Agency fresh out of university, after graduating from the University of Huddersfield in 2021 with a bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, ready to discover what kind of designer I want to be.

I started my position as a Junior Visual Designer in May 2021, diving straight into team projects and working with big brands such as Britvic, Berry Global and one of our smaller international clients Artis Flooring in Australia.

I think keeping your reference material fresh and updated is the best way to grow as a designer.

My first studio experience has been amazing, the team is so friendly and creative. It is amazing working with and learning from Damien the founder and Managing Director and Joe the Head of Creative here at Fishtank. I am greatly inspired by the way they approach a project and get the team to be creatively engaged as well.

I have skills in many visual aspects from branding to 3D visuals, but my specialities fall within editorial and compositional design. Before joining the Fishtank team, I worked freelance alongside my university education which gave me a good example of the pacing and different areas that a designer works in. I enjoy working with both 2D and 3D graphics and Fishtank is the place where I want to showcase and grow these skills even further.

I believe that inspiration comes from anywhere. You can always find me scrolling on Behance or Instagram checking out the latest design trends, or browsing various creative markets for fonts and colour schemes. I have a huge collection of textures, fonts, swatches and materials which are scattered across my computer desktop and actual desktop.

My workspace is always a little messy but you have to make a bit of a mess in order to reach the best results. I think keeping your reference material fresh and updated is the best way to grow as a designer. I am always keeping up to date with trends and experimenting with ways to keep my graphics interesting.

Life Outside Fishtank

My main passion outside of work is gaming and my house is filled with every type of games console and controller you could imagine! I like the cooperative side of multiplayer games and the majority of my free time is devoted to beating game levels with my friends.

I also have an interest in art and DIY and will try my hand at anything creative, from stay at home haircuts to full wall installations.

Bucket List Best Bits

Everything on my bucket list revolves around animals in some way and one goal is to visit the Miyagi Zao Fox Village in Japan - a tourist attraction where visitors can feed and interact with hundreds of foxes.
