With all the cuts and chops being made to the BBC, it’s amazing to see this managed to take off. The BBC Micro Bit, the new generation BBC Micro – 70 times smaller and 18 times faster than the original.

The Micro Bit is a teeny-tiny handheld, fully programmable computer being given free to every Year 7 or equivalent aged child across the UK in an attempt to get kids coding. What’s really cool is the tiny onboard bluetooth chip that allows you to send the code accross to the Micro Bit wirelessly.

Most of us can use computers, but how many of us can actually change the way the work or create something new? Hopefully the BBC will herald in a new generation of coders and programmers!
