Charlie De Kerckhove

After graduating from the University of Worcester as the highest-scoring Computing student of the year I was very keen to get straight into learning all areas of website development in the real world. Which resulted in making waves at Fishtank, in November 2021, after applying for the Website Developer role which I instantly knew was the perfect fit for me.

The opportunity of a learning curve via new software, new processes and new coding techniques was one I couldn’t miss, and the bonus of being able to work remotely reminded me of the main reason I fell in love with the idea of coding – being able to work anywhere in the world (with an internet connection).

Originally I had my heart set on becoming a Game Developer to create entertaining video games however, after a year of learning both Web and Game development I realised that a game development career could involve 5 years of developing trees in the background of a scene that most people wouldn’t notice, whereas, website development provides an opportunity to see a project through from start to finish and use my knowledge of creating responsive websites to make an impact online.

I previously enjoyed a year working as a Software Developer to enhance my problem-solving skills along with gaining experience with multiple backend coding languages/frameworks including Laravel and CodeIgniter, whilst working with a custom-built CMS. These are skills I look forward to putting into practice at Fishtank to provide our clients with the best possible coding solution.

I feel I am able to offer both creative and technical solutions for our clients, and doing it alongside the Fishtank collaborative team is even better.

I have quickly learnt that Fishtank is the ideal place for me, surrounded by an amazingly talented team who are always happy to teach as well as discuss ways to improve. Life Outside Fishtank

Out of the tank, I’m dedicated to making sure my fantasy football team is winning my mini-leagues. My idea of heaven is playing video games, wrapped in blankets surrounded by pizza.
