Paul Marshall

Senior Front-End Developer

Since joining Fishtank as a placement student in July 2016, I have worked on a number of projects that have tested my knowledge and required me to use my creativity to solve problems. On a daily basis, I typically work on building new websites for clients as well as working on a few smaller tasks – ranging from bug fixes on existing client websites to adding new pages or even functionality. As a developer it’s important to stay up to date with the latest technologies, so you can usually find me reading an article or two a day to stay up-to-date.

The open office environment is great to work in as it helps with the flow of communication in the business.

A time that has stood out as challenging in my role as a developer was during the build of Brookhouse’s website, when I was tasked with building a calendar which would allow the user to view the availability of different courses. The calendar needed a filter system whereby customers would first select a course category and then a course, which would then populate the calendar. Once a date was selected, users are redirected to a page with more information about the course and a contact form which is pre-populated with the selected date. I built the calendar predominantly using JavaScript which was challenging as I had to do a lot of research. I learned a lot from this project, particularly about making AJAX calls and JavaScript functions.

Life Outside Fishtank

Outside of work, you can usually find me playing video games, watching TV shows or films and recently I have taken up bike riding again.
